Power of Positive Thinking

Untitled Document

Positive thinking is a mind-set that lets into the mind thoughts, words and images that are conductive to growth, expansion and success. It is a mental attitude that expects good and favorable results.
A positive mind anticipates happiness, joy, health and a successful outcome of every situation and action. Whatever the mind expects, it finds.

Not everyone accepts or believes in the power of positive thinking. Some view it as nonsense, while others make fun of people who believe and accept positive thinking. Even many of the people who accept it do not know how to use it effectively to get results.

To Illustrate How This Power Works, let’s consider two stories.
Aslam applied for a new job, but because he had low self-esteem, and considered himself a failure and undeserving of success, he was certain that he is not going to get the job. He had a negative attitude towards himself and believed other applicants were better and more qualified than he was. Aslam‘s negative attitude was due to his negative past experiences with job interviews.

He was filled with negative thoughts and fears concerning the job for the whole week before the job interview. He was pretty sure he would be rejected. On the day of the interview he got up late, and to his horror he discovered that the shirt he had planned to wear was stained, and the other one needed ironing. There was no electricity because of load shedding and since he was already, he went out wearing a shirt full of wrinkles.

Throughout the interview he was tense, displayed a negative attitude, constantly worried about his shirt, and felt nauseated because he did not have enough time to eat breakfast. All this distracted his mind and made it difficult for him to focus on the interview. His overall behavior during the interview left a bad impression, and as a result he his fear proved true and he did not get the job.
Javed applied for the same job as well. But he approached the matter totally differently. He was confident that he would be successful in getting the job. During the week preceding the interview he practiced for the interview and visualized himself making a good impression and getting the job.

The evening before the interview he prepared his clothes for the interview and went to sleep a little earlier. On the interview day he woke up earlier than usual, and had enough time to have breakfast, and arrived for the interview before the scheduled time.

He was very methodical during the interview and got the job because he made a good impression on the interviewers. Of course he had also, the proper qualifications for the job, but so did Aslam.

What do we learn from these two stories?
When the attitude is positive we have pleasant feelings and constructive images, and see in our mind's eye what we really want to happen. This brings brightness to the eyes, more gives us more energy and happiness. This broadcasts good will, happiness and success. Even the health is affected in a beneficial way. We walk tall and the voice is more powerful. Our body language shows the way you feel inside.

How to Develop Positive Thinking
In order to make the switch from negative to positive, inner work and training is required. Attitude and thoughts do not change automatically and overnight.

  • Read about positive thinking, consider the benefits and persuade yourself to try it. The power of thoughts is powerful that is always shaping our life. This usually happens subconsciously, but it is also possible to make the process a conscious one. Give it a try even if the idea seems strange, as you have nothing to lose, but everything to gain. Ignore what others might say or think of you.
  • Use only positive words in your inner conversation or when talking with others. Smile a bit more, as this helps to think positively. Disregard any feelings of laziness or a desire to quit. If you persist, you will transform the way your mind works.
  • Train yourself so that you become aware of a negative thought as it enters your mind and try to replace it with a constructive one. The negative thought will try to enter your mind again which you must replace with a positive one. Persistence and patience will eventually teach your mind to think positively and ignore negative thoughts.

It does not matter what your circumstances, think positively, expect only favorable results & situations, and circumstances will change accordingly. It may take some time for the changes to take place, but eventually they do.
